Buddy Walk 2009

Our family is now signed up for the Atlanta Buddy Walk! This is our first time participating in this event, which will take place on October 18th as part of Down Syndrome Awareness Month. Not only Scott and I, but our two little boys (with the baby in the stroller...) will be able to participate!

The Buddy Walk was established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society to promote acceptance and inclusion of the more than 350,000 individuals with Down syndrome in the United States. Last year alone, 250,000 people participated in a Buddy Walk, raising $10.5 million to benefit national education, research and advocacy initiatives, as well as local programs. These funds enable NDSS and local groups to offer services that support and enhance the quality of life for individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

Another neat aspect of the Buddy Walk event is that the NDSS puts together a video showcasing individuals with DS, to be shown on the jumbo screen in Times Square on the day of the NY Buddy Walk. To view the 2008 video, click here.
