Results From Endoscopy and Ph Test

Chase's test results were back this morning - the biopsies from the endoscopy showed that he has Esophagitis from reflux (not allergies) and the ph test showed that it was moderate to severe.

So what do we do? Chase will start a new reflux medicine (his fourth...) and we will try it for a month and evaluate how he is doing after that. Please pray that the new medicine - Nexium - will work. The other solution would be a fundoplication surgery where the stomach is wrapped around the bottom of the esophagus and sewn into place so to strengthen the valve between the stomach and esophagus and prevent reflux from coming up from his stomach.

  1. We will be praying for positive results on his new meds. I tried Nexium but couldn't take it but prevacid worked beautifully so he might have great success with Nexium! ;) love, nana and boo

  4. I'm sorry that Chase (and you) had to go through that test, but I am happy that you have some answers. This reflux/allergy stuff is so hard when there aren't a lot of answers.

What other meds has Chase tried? Sweet Pea has tried a few and I'm thinking we are going to be switching again here soon. :-( The Prevacid Solutab that she is on right now has been so easy, but it seems to have stopped working.

  5. Oh we have the fundo and we are fighting it so much right now. It has made him struggle with eating and even the g-tube feedings have been horrible. I'm praying your new meds will work.

  6. Sweet Pea's Mom: He's been on Zantac, Prilosec, Prevacid Solutab, and tomorrow we'll start Nexium. So this is the fourth. He doesn't have discomfort, just the constant spitup. Although the medicines may have been helping his esophagus heal, none of them have stopped the reflux itself.

  7. Mer,

We're praying for great results with Nexium. I'm glad that the tests are over and we can't wait to see both boys soon.

    Love,

  8. Well at least you know what it is now. I have not heard of that med. We are dealing with our reflux acting up this week and possibly changing it next week when we see the pedi. We are also looking into the formula causing the reflux. Is chase g tube fed? Anyways best of luck. If I find a good med I will let you know.
