Fourth of July Travels

For some reason (perhaps the heat?) our family has ended up serendipitously in the mountains the past two Fourth of July holidays. Last year we visited the highest peak in Georgia, and this year we discovered the highest peak in Tennessee - Clingman's Dome, near Gatlinburg.

We drove up on the 4th and camped in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park (yes, Trent and Chase included!) and then drove north to Clingman's Dome on the 5th.

The hike from parking was only a half mile up, but it was steep! Trent walked most of it, and Chase rode in the backpack. We met a boy with Down syndrome in the parking lot who was hiking it as well - very cool!

It was a great way to spend the classic American holiday - camping in a national park and seeing some of our country's great beauties!
