Tonsils and Eyes (again)

Chase's sleep study came back showing the expected mild sleep apnea due to his enormous tonsils that unfortunately couldn't be removed at his last surgery due to his being under 2 yrs old at the time. So the ENT has scheduled for Chase's tonsils to be removed at the end of the month.  (His swallow study came back normal - also what we expected) It's nice that we've gone through a tonsillectomy with one of our boys before, so we know what to expect.

It's good we have the tonsils on the calendar now, as we found out this morning that he needs his tear ducts fixed again. They were lanced and dialated with a balloon during his last surgery to fix the constant tearing and discharge, but the tear ducts closed up again and the procedure was not effective. This time around, they'll insert little tubes into his tear ducts which will keep the tear ducts open while it heals. In 6 months, they'll remove the tubes (either in the dr. office or in surgery, depending on how Chase does) and the tear ducts should stay open.

While Chase is asleep, they'll also do some tests to make sure that Chase's large corneas are not indicative of glaucoma. This is a concern in kids with T21, and especially with those with extra big corneas. They checked for this during the last surgery and it was negative, but they want to check again to make sure there is no change in the eye pressure.

Right now the surgery is scheduled for 8/30, but we're waiting to hear from the eye doctor's surgery scheduler to make sure that this date works for both doctors.
