Today, March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day, celebrated around the world and even at the United Nations. The UN is not just acknowledging this holiday on paper, but they are spending the day learning about Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities and how to improve upon the lives of these people around the world. How awesome is that?
So today we are celebrating Chase and all that he can do and all that he will do! Let's see - to start with, he can chase his brother around, climb up a ladder, entertain his baby sister, make friends with practically anyone with no introduction at all, use my iphone and ipad like a pro, swing and pump his legs, roar like a scary monster, make silly jokes, ride the bus to school all by himself, and give the absolute best hugs and kisses ever!!
"On this day, let us reaffirm that persons with Down syndrome are entitled to the full and effective enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms. Let us each do our part to enable children and persons with Down syndrome to participate fully in the development and life of their societies on an equal basis with others. Let us build an inclusive society for all."
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, 2012.
