Trent's dreams of having a lemonade stand - dreams that have spanned many many years - finally came true today. But with weather of 65', we went for a hot apple cider stand instead of lemonade. He always seems to want to do a lemonade stand when it's freezing outside, but this time we finally put our creativity to work and let him take the crockpot out to treat the neighbors with a little kid version of a hot toddy.
It was not just a fun time for Trent, but a mathematical experience whose success is up in the air as evidenced by the math on his poster (below). But either way, he was thrilled to make - hold your breath.... $8 whole dollars through the venture. Yes, he had perhaps six or seven customers and one tipped him a whole extra dollar. He is over the moon. Never has he made so much money at once... he says he'll put it in his piggy bank but no doubt he'll come up with a more creative idea sooner rather than later.
For all the people out there who wonder how we had a hot apple cider stand at the end of our driveway, we simmered just a few ingredients in the crock pot for an amazing concoction that we make all the time in the fall, and carried the crock pot outside with a very, very long extension cord. Here's our special, spooky, fall recipe:
2 quarts apple cider
3 cinnamon sticks
dash nutmeg, allspice, and salt
Simmer in crockpot or on stove for as long as you can stand to wait, then drink and savor!
When we have it on hand, we'll throw in a quartered orange. Usually recipes call for .25 cup brown sugar as well, but we prefer to go without the added sugar. Really, all you need is cider and cinnamon sticks. Easy peasy and sooooo yummy!
